LOTUS HILL
Lotus Hill is an independent aid project in Sri Lanka with no political or religious affiliation, started ten years ago by a Finn. Our local partner is a charity organisation, run by Buddhist monks, with a good track record in helping poor people by building new homes and renovating existing ones and by providing hygiene articles, shoes and school bags for children. They also provide help with daily living in the form of wheelchairs and other aids, as well as medicine.
Sanitary facilities and showers have been installed in the homes of disabled people. The Children's Reception Centre has been fitted with a canteen, kitchen, wash rooms and now also boasts a medical center. Aid and sponsor funds have been used to employ teachers and doctors. The aim was to help tsunami victims rebuild their lives.
On 1 May 2007 work started to build Sri Lanka's first rehabilitation centre for disabled children. Lotus Hill will be completed at the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009.
All volunteers work for free and cover their own costs. All money donated goes straight to the project and is much needed and much appreciated!
The project has been officially registered in Finland and in Sri Lanka.
FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS
The Friendship Bracelet Project is a unique campaign allowing those in need of help to participate actively in building their community and create a better future for themselves. These people may not be able to build a new roof or dig a new well but they can make beautiful bracelets. Wear yours proudly, think of the person who made it for you and know that your friendship is very important for them and their family.
The income generated by the Friendship Bracelets will primarily be used to complete the Lotus Hill building project.

It takes 3-4 hours to make one bracelet. 32 families in Hikkaduwa Vaulakota village, Ilola Home for the Disabled and Toivola Orphanage take part in making these bracelets.
